Building a Personal Learning Network

In the process of building a personal learning network (PLN), I first had to create a Twitter account and begin beefing up the connections that Twitter afforded me.

As the image shows, there are a plethora of options and resources for the teachers of English and I quickly set about adding those resources to my PLN. My PLN construction process began with me following authors and organizations that I have utilized or found helpful so far in my coursework. Specifically, I followed Jim Burke, whose book The English Teacher's Companion has been an incredible resource and I found many additional resources on his Twitter account's
"Following" page. Additionally, Jim Burke has a Ning page that I joined, and that resource increased my PLN greatly.

My plan to continue growing my PLN is to maintain an active presence on both Twitter and the Ning groups, asking questions, contributing, and making connections with others who are doing the same. In short, my plan is simply to join in the conversation, and I think that will be a great deal easier with the resources I have built into my PLN.  The addition of the Ning groups and the many resources that Twitter allowed me to access has allowed me to generate a fledgling, yet already robust, Personal Learning Network, and I look forward to growing and learning from those connections.
